48. | 3.3.6.2 Front Bulkhead Support - Triangulation![]() |
| 3.3.6.2 Front Bulkhead Support - Triangulation Rule 3.3.6.2 states that: “The Front Bulkhead must be securely integrated into the Frame. “The Front Bulkhead must be supported back to the Front Roll Hoop by a minimum of three (3) Frame Members on each side of the vehicle with one at the top (within 50.8 mm (2 inches) of its top-most surface), one (1) at the bottom, and one (1) as a diagonal brace to provide triangulation. “The triangulation must be node-to-node, with triangles being formed by the Front Bulkhead, the diagonal and one of the other two required Front Bulkhead Support Frame Members. “All the Frame Members of the Front Bulkhead Support system listed above must be constructed of closed section tubing per Section 3.3.3. “Monocoque construction requires an approved Structural Equivalency Form, per Section 3.3.2. The form must demonstrate that the design is equivalent to a welded Frame in terms of energy dissipation, yield and ultimate strengths in bending, buckling and tension.” Question: Is there any more information as to how this Rule will be interpreted? Answer: The wording on this Rule has been clarified since it was first introduced for 2006. The following is some further clarification. An Excel spread sheet is also attached to assist the teams. - A Front Roll Hoop Brace that goes all the way forward to the Front Bulkhead can be used as one of the three (3) tubes, EXCEPT that it cannot be used as the diagonal brace. - The diagonal braces must go from a structural node on the Front Bulkhead to a structural node at the rear of the front/foot bay of the car, and form triangles with the Front Bulkhead and one of the other required tubes on that side. 31st October, 2005 Last revised, 15th October, 2007 Michael Royce, Chairman, FSAE Rules Committee. |
